PTDF GEOSCIENCES TRAINING PROGRAMME (GTP)
I copied the write up below from this site, http://www.ptdf.gov.ng/index.php/30-latest-news-2/latest-news-1/256-ptdf-geosciences-training-programme-gtp
Please go there and apply if you qualify. Good luck.
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is the Federal Government’s Agency mandate to build capacities in the Nigerian oil and gas industry. The Fund has over the years developed and implemented several programmes to meet identified human resource requirements to enhance the active participation of Nigerians in the industry.
In furtherance of the attainment of its mandate, the Fund wishes to commence the Geosciences Training Programme (GTP) designed to increase local capacities for geosciences knowledge, application and analytical skills in the oil and gas industry. This initiative entails the training of Nigerian graduates of geology or geosciences at the Laser Petroleum Geosciences Centre in Port Harcourt for effective participation in the industry’s upstream sector activities to enhance Nigerian Content Development. The GTP is of 5 months duration.
Further to the above, the Fund hereby invites applications from suitably qualified candidates who meet the following requirements:
A minimum of first degree in geology and geosciences ONLY
A minimum of second class lower degree
Must have completed the National Youth service Corps (NYSC)
Must not be above 30 years of age
Must be computer literate
Must be available to undertake a 6 months Post Training Attachment Programme
Must attach all credentials/documents while submitting application
Candidates are to note that only those who meet the requirements would be short listed and invited for the training programme.
Applicants who meet the above requirements are to upload the following documents to: geosciencestraining@ptdf.gov.ng and click on this link:https://docs.google.com/forms/d/10XjRI8wnev3UxvYIimHFusw1HZu8yAXaFuOIXgcJFLo/viewform
To complete the Geosciences Training Programme application form
The required documents to be uploaded are;
O’ level, WAEC or NECO results,
First degree and /or MSc. certificate
NYSC discharge certificate
Evidence of date of birth or age declaration
Evidence of State of origin
Passport photograph
Candidates must also provide their Contact phone numbers and email addresses.
The Fund will sponsor only a limited number of Trainees for the programme.
Candidates who do not meet the above conditions NEED NOT APPLY.
Completed applications should be submitted on or before August 21,2015.

Beauty of Geology
Imagine this structure is subsurface, a
vertical and horizontal well will be drilled through it, and your manager asked
you to prepare to do a near-wellbore structural analysis on each well. What
logging suite would you recommend? Send your suggestions to

Meandering River
A river that flows in a distinct channel
which follows a winding, hence meandering path. Parts of a meandering channel
are the line following the deepest point, thalweg, the sandy deposits on the inside of the
bend, point bar, and the isolated oxbow lake, caused by the cut-off of a
meander loop. The meander loop migrates depositing the point bar, which make up
the reservoirs. This is culled from IPE HWU Petroleum Geoscience manual.

Mart Resources Takes Stake in Nigeria’s OML 18 Field
Mart Resources will be leading a consortium to take 45% stake in OML 18. The remaining 55% will remain with NNPC. The 45% was sold by Shell together with its partners Total and Eni. OML 18 produces between 20, 000 to 30, 000 barrels per day from about 30 wells. OML 18 is onshore.

PRODUCTION LOGGING: OVERVIEW, BENEFITS & APPLICATIONS
As world oil reserves dwindle and energy consumption increases, there is an ever increasing need to optimally drain hydrocarbon reservoirs, such that every drop of recoverable hydrocarbon is extracted. Discovery of new oil fields is becoming rarer and there is a general move by operators to go back to the old wells that are declining in production to see how they can be worked over in order to increase hydrocarbon production.
Reservoir monitoring via pulsed neutron and production logging are two key tools that are used to diagnose the well production problems, discover bypassed hydrocarbon and monitor the production pattern with a view to efficiently drain the reservoir and avoid reservoir damage or water/gas conning. Traditional production logging data is acquired in order to quantify the different phase contributions, identify producing perforations and delineate water entry points amongst other uses.
Production log (PL) data can be used to address the problems highlighted above. In subsequent articles, we would take a look at the different sensors that make up a PL tool string and how the data acquired from these sensors are used to optimize production. We will also look at the slightly more complex array production log tools which are used for deviated to horizontal wells. We would go further to explore how taking a new perspective on PL data can give insights to molecular fluid behavior and help us better characterize the reservoir.

MAIN PRESSURES IN THE RESERVOIR
Overburden pressure is the pressure exerted by the total weight of the overlying formation. It is a function of the height of the rock column and the bulk density of the rock.
Hydrostatic pressure is the pressure exerted by the weight of a static column of fluid that is independent of the dimension and geometry of the fluid column. It is exerted equally in all directions.
Formation pore pressure is the pressure exerted by the pore fluids within the rock/formation.
Fracture pressure is the upper limit at which a rock can withstand pressure from the mud column. It is the minimum lateral stress that must be overcome to fracture the rock.

POROSITY
Ø Ratio of the volume of space to the total volume of a rock.
Ø Porosity of a rock is a measure of its ability to hold a fluid.
Ø Porosity is expressed as a percentage of the total rock which is taken up by pore space.
Total porosity
Ø the ratio of the entire pore space in a rock to its bulk volume.
Effective porosity
Ø percent of bulk volume occupied by interconnected pores spaces.
Ø A total porosity less the fraction of the pore space occupied by shale or clay
Ø In very clean sands, total porosity is equal to effective porosity.
Primary porosity
Ø porosity of the rock that formed at the time of its deposition.
Ø primary porosity of a sediment or rock consists of the spaces between the grains.
Ø Primary porosity decrease due compaction and packing of grains.
Ø Intergranular pores of clastics or carbonates.
Ø Primary porosity is less than one percent in crystalline rocks like granite.
more than 55% in some soils.
Secondary porosity
Ø develops after deposition of the rock.
Ø Vugular spaces in carbonate rocks created by the chemical process of leaching.
Ø fracture spaces formed due to stress distortion in reservoirs rocks.
